Update on International City Swap 2010

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Great International City Swap this year!

Here are just a few of the comments about packages that flew back and forth across the world:



Goodies from Canada

"I just received the greatest parcel from Nashville.  It was filled with magazines, a deck of playing cards, a bottle of Jack Daniels, a CD with a selection of local artists, a bag of goodies from the Loveless Cafe, some beautiful postcards from a local design group, a print from Hatch Show, some guitar picks, and a brilliant letter detailing all of the goodies in the box.   Each item came numbered with a little tag and then the letter described each item in detail.   I was so pleased with the package."


"Mine was great!  I took pictures, but I haven't uploaded them yet.  Juliette is from Ottowa, Canada, and she is a photographer, so she sent me a really cool picture that she took herself.  She also sent candy and a magnet--always good choices.  It was such fun!  I really enjoyed getting to know her and reading her blog.  Definitely sign me up for next year!"


"Anelle sent me some goodies from her home country of Swaziland!  Rooibos tea, photos, info on Swaziland, handmade candles, yummy candy and a beautiful beaded necklace!"



Colorado swag!



"I received my package today from Jenni today, and I'll do a post on it later on. She sent Elvis coffee, lots of little knick knacks from the Loveless Motel, postcard, magazine, jam, and a Goo Goo Supreme which I have not had in ages!! Oh, and a cd and a bandana too. Lots of lovelies!"

Everyone seemed to have a great experience and many have asked to participate again next year. Lessons learned: 1. give everyone at least a month to gather their goodies 2. Post shipping rates

A question for all: What time of year do you think would be best to do the city swap? (fall seemed pretty busy)

COVID Vaccines have arrived!

  Today I volunteered with Hands on Nashville and the Mayors office to assist the Metro health department with COVID vaccines for first responders. To say it was emotional would be an understatement. Physicians, Nurses (Meharry), Alive Hospice, State Troopers, EMTs, COVID testing staff, etc. These people have seen so much, and they were thankful and hopeful and yes there were tears.    One of the older public officials said he didn’t deserve to get a vaccine because he had been one who hadn’t taken this virus seriously for far too long. As he learned this virus does not follow political, ethnic or religious lines and it will/has affected or even taken someone we all love.  280+ vaccines given by days end at our location, and the vials had some left that had been thawed so we volunteers were offered a vaccine too. It was a good day!    They are going to need all the hands they can when they begin to vaccinate the public so I told them I would spread the word to my medical friends.

Henderson sisters dinner

I grew up with these beautiful ladies in Henderson, TN, aka small town USA . We share so many memories of childhood, school, youth group and summer camp. We try to get together every month or so to catch up. It's wonderful to have such a fabulous group of supportive small town sisters to gather and do life with!  I also know it would would make Judy, Ouida and Reba happy to see us together!

Turn off the news and build a garden

I've noticed lately when I stay inside all day I pay more attention to my breathing. Am I short of breath? Am I breathing deep enough? Any chest tightness? Just hearing the symptoms of COVID-19 have me assessing my respiratory status. I guess it's a side effect of 30+ years in healthcare.  One of my favorite songs out now is by Lukas Nelson and the Promise of the Real "Turn off the news and build a garden".  Turn off the news  - a simple request  and build a garden  or at least get outside. When I am outside with my hands in the dirt, I rarely think about my breathing. I spend my time digging up monkey grass, relocating bushes and making new flower beds. After a few hours with my hands in the dirt, I come inside and find it easier to breathe and relax.  If you haven't heard this song - take a listen!
